Creative Schools Project

CAS supports, guides, and launches innovative schools with the goal to become models for others. After decades of providing these services in districts in Massachusetts, the CAS team came together to provide support and guidance to the leaders of the Conservatory Lab Charter School as they develop a national model of teaching and learning inspired by the orchestral practices of El Sistema and the project-based and service-learning approach of expeditionary learning (EL). 

This support is offered on a case-by-case consulting basis, and can include:  introductory session for administrators; initial training for teachers; residency sessions at Conservatory Lab Charter School; and on-site visits and coaching at your school.

the Conservatory Lab Charter School

Conservatory Lab Charter School (CLCS) is a K-8 school that uses the power of music and learning to transform the lives of students.  Bringing together the best of two proven programs – El Sistema’s intensive, ensemble focused music education and Expeditionary Learning – CLCS is charting a unique path for arts-immersive, experiential learning.

The Center for Artistry and Scholarship provides support and guidance to CLCS’s leadership in further developing its program as a national model.  From mentoring the school’s principal to providing best practices on arts-immersive education, the relationship between the two organizations will both support CLCS’s continued success and serve as an inspiration and model other arts-based schools fostered by the center.

Conservatory Lab Charter School is fully independent of the Center for Artistry and Scholarship. Ongoing operations are overseen by its administration, and the education leadership and strategic direction are set by an independent board. CLCS has access to the Center’s resources, guidance and insights of its leadership team.
